Alternative Bid Project 3 - University of Washington Bothell Branch Campus
Journal staff
The initial phase of the project consists of a library for both schools and two classroom buildings -- one for the University of Washington and the other for Cascadia. The first phase will accommodate 2,000 full time students. The first-phase buildings will be four stories tall and will be built using poured-in-place concrete with brick exteriors and sloping metal roof sections. The largest building will be the University of Washington classroom building at 117,000 square feet. The library will be 88,000 square feet and the Cascadia classroom building 74,000 square feet. The library will consist of two sections -- one square and the other rectangular -- connected by a glass-enclosed bridge. A full-service cafeteria is part of the second phase which will be ready fall, 2003. The second phase is expected to include two more classroom buildings and a library addition. A campus green and a series of walkways and trails will be developed on the 127-acre site located in the northwest quadrant where Interstate 405 and State Highway 522 intersect. A new channel will be carved for North Creek, which has flowed through a manmade channel on the site for 80 years. Trees and shrubs will be planted along the stream bank and there will be a large wetlands buffer. Six major bid packages, ranging from electrical work to sitework utilities and foundation work, have been secured and the remainder of the bid packages will be advertised through May 1999. Address: Intersection of I-405 and SR 522, Beardsley Blvd., Bothell, WA.
