SEATTLE — Earlier this week, the city's Department of Planning and Development notified 35 employees that their positions will not be funded in 2010, and that they will be laid off at year's end.
While overall project volumes remain steady, DPD has seen a decrease in the number of large projects, “and it's become worse lately, particularly for building permit applications,” DPD spokesman Bryan Stevens wrote in an email.
