Townhome code changes spark debate at City Hall

Designers from the Congress for Residential Architecture sketched two townhomes that could be built under the proposed new code. The team called them ‘black hat’ and ‘white hat’ designs. The ‘black hat’ four-unit (top image) has the required amenity space on the roof, not at street level. The ‘white hat’ four-unit would have a more open feel but require some underground parking, which adds to the cost.
The desires of a group of townhome design analysts clashed with the needs of townhome developers last week at Seattle City Hall.
