Are you kidding me? In a time where we will likely see $6 a gallon gas, the idea of bus lanes as a priority over electric mass transit makes no sense. Further, Interstate 90 over Lake Washington is one of the few (if not the only) highway segments in the region that is large enough to accommodate future light rail. It definitely should be considered.
The most disappointing “opinion” stated is “Sound Transit should not be the first...” Concerning mass transit, we don't have to worry about that. We're almost dead last. We are simply striving to keep up with all the other cities on east and west coasts, and with our own sadly dated transportation infrastructure. Perhaps the challenge of putting light rail atop/alongside a floating bridge (which is a real and unique condition in our region) can restore a sense of regional confidence that we can be proactive and innovative with regards to long-term transportation solutions.
Forget about outdated provincial solutions. It's time we finally become a region that is focused on long-term transit solutions (that don't depend on oil).
