PORTLAND (AP) — Oregon environmental authorities have taken their first look at the cost of restoring streamside vegetation in the Willamette Valley that has been harmed by farming, forestry and urban development.
The picture is not good. A report issued Thursday by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality estimates it would cost $593 million to $1.2 billion to restore and clean up runoff pollution on 96,000 acres.
