Contractors dig in and try to hang on

    Pease Construction is going after projects where there is less competition, such as this $30 million “accountability and restitution center” in Thurston County that will be completed in July.

    Over the past two years, GLY Construction laid off about 270 workers as its revenues plunged along with the economy. The Bellevue contractor has no plans to lay off any more, and set aside more than $2 million to ensure its current workforce will stay employed even if the weak market drags on.
