Chuckanut overpass on I-5 to get repairs

BURLINGTON — Vetch Construction of Camano Island is expected to start emergency repairs later this month on an Interstate 5 overpass in Burlington. The Chuckanut Drive overpass was damaged last year when an excavator being hauled by a tractor-trailer crashed into it.

Crews will rebuild the eastern half of the bridge, which spans northbound I-5. The crash severely damaged three of the bridge's six support beams, knocking off concrete and breaking 22 steel cables. Each support beam houses 20 steel cables.
