    "Think outside the box" is a challenge to traditional thinking. Here's a new challenge for transportation: think outside the line.

    For a growing city in the age of global warming, transportation solutions require a new kind of thinking — one that involves the entire grid. To add to the complexity of today's transportation questions, it's important to think about all modes of transportation, including bus, rail and ferry service. Most important of all — for the health of the city and its inhabitants — is walking.
