Watts-DelHur, Sicklesteel win AGC grand awards
The Associated General Contractors of Washington recognized some of the state’s most successful projects during the AGC Build Washington Awards event, hosted by Dave Ross of KIRO radio at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront on May 19.

“The Build Washington Awards is truly a celebration of teamwork at its best and a showcase for the skill, integrity and responsibility that make AGC contractors a cut above,” said AGC President Pat McGarry.
The grand award winner in construction was Watts-DelHur joint venture for the Elwha water facilities in Olympic National Park. Sicklesteel Cranes received the grand award for safety. Mowat Construction Co. won the AGC-Moss Adams Service to the Community Award. Frank Young was named project manager of the year and Ed Kittle was recognized as superintendent of the year. Both Young and Kittle are with Kiewit Infrastructure West Co.
Judges for the construction awards were Rick Benner, university architect and executive director of facilities development at Western Washington University; Jeff Carpenter, state construction engineer for the Washington State Department of Transportation; Ben Minnick, construction editor for the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce; Greg Mummy, principal at Gram Sage Graves; and Jason Peschel, assistant professor at Washington State University’s School of Architecture and Construction Management.
Safety award judges were John Burdick of the Port of Seattle; Adam Gerson, safety and health manager for OSHA Region 10; Eliot Lapidus, safety and loss control manager for the AGC Oregon-Columbia chapter; Anne Soiza, deputy assistant director for the Division of Occupational Safety and Health at the state Department of Labor and Industries; and Bill Yahn, senior risk control consultant at Wells Fargo Insurance Services USA.
